FAQ
What is Softwashing?
Softwashing is primarily a cleaning process that uses low pressure water in combination with a chemical solution to clean exterior surfaces by removing the Biofilm.
What Is Biofilm
Biofilm is a group of microorganisms which often stick to exterior surfaces. Some examples of this biological growth are algae, lichen, fungi, moss and mould which can cause red, green, yellow and black staining. This Biofilm creates the unsightly staining often seen on buildings.
Why Is Softwashing Superior to Pressure Washing?
Softwashing removes the biofilm of microorganisms that can cause staining, whereas pressure washing temporary removes the top surface layer only. Softwashing does not use harmful high-pressure water when cleaning building render, unlike conventional pressure washing which will cause damage to the building finish. Softwashing treatments also last much longer than conventional pressure washing treatments due to the sterilising chemical process. The correct use of pressure washing in combination with approved licenced chemical products produces the best results in exterior cleaning.
Why Is It Important to Eradicate Microorganisms?
Microbes such as mould, mildew, algae, lichen, and bacteria can be responsible for most staining on a property’s exterior as well as other surface areas. Also, the metabolic process of these organisms are acidic and are harmful to surfaces such as render. Removing microorganisms prevents discolouration and will enhance the longevity of surfaces.
What Chemicals Do I Use?
The products used are of the highest quality, fully government approved and licenced by the Health and Safety Executive. These do not bio-accumulate and are fully biodegradable.
Do I Always Use Chemicals?
No. The use of heat on some surfaces, where appropriate, can also produce good results. This is done by using a specialist boiler unit in combination with a petrol-driven pressure washer, used at low pressure with the correctly sized pressure washer nozzle. This boiler can achieve temperatures of up to 150 ° C
